Often described as the agricultural heart of Europe, Hungary has been producing wine for at least 1000 years.

Our collection represents my favorite finds from Hungary’s burgeoning wine scene today: hand-crafted, small-batch, natural and organic wines from distinctive grapes. Wines that reflect Hungary’s diverse microclimates and its long history of winemaking. Wines imbued with the adventures, successes and struggles of centuries past, yet they move forward, hopeful, towards the future ahead.

I founded Palinkerie in 2013 to present the proud legacy and exciting development of Hungarian wine to the US market. I spent time in Budapest during law school, and while I was there I tried some incredible wines.

The more I learned about Hungarian winemaking, the more fascinated I became. I was charmed by the beauty of the vineyards, the different appellations and their stories, and the personal touch that each tiny family-run winery seemed to leave on their wines.

After I returned to New York, I was determined to share these experiences with others.

Our first shipment in 2014 consisted of just 270 cases. Today we carry over 70 different wines, and are proud to represent many of the top wineries from across Hungary. We are committed to partnering with growers who engage in sustainable organic farming practices and low intervention methods in the cellar.

Hungarian wine presents distinctive terroirs to unearth; fresh flavors to enjoy; rare grapes to pronounce (or mispronounce); and a new world of memories to create.
