BASALT SOMLAI

2019

Jász Laci is making natural wines on his small organic estate on Somló, Hungary’s smallest (and very distinctively volcanic) appellation in the western part of the country. The "Basalt Somlai" is a blend of Juhfark, Furmint and Hárslevelű, and the name pays tribute to the traditional wines of Somló, which were almost always blends of similar varieties and referred to as “Somlai” wines centuries ago.

The wine was spontaneously co-fermented in stainless steel tank without temperature control. It spent overnight on the skins and a total of 6 months on the lees before bottling. Ripe spicy quince and yellow apricot are dominant on the nose and palate, with ample salt and savory herbs on the palate and finish. Vegan, unfiltered, certified organic (2022). Only 720 bottles produced.
