Jász Laci
BORSMENTA 2022
Laci Jász founded the “Nagy Bajuszú Jász Laci Pincéje” (The Big Mustached Jász Laci’s Winery) in 2013 on Somló hill, an extinct volcanic butte in western Hungary. He loves making wines that spend time on their skins (orange wines) in accordance with the ancient Kartulian methods. He adds zero or very little sulfur in the cellar, and tries to let the winemaking happen slowly and naturally.
Borsmenta is a fungus-resistant grape variety recently developed in Hungary. This wine is a point of pride for Jász, since the grapes were grown without any plant protection or spraying of any kind. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in open vats, and the wine remained on the skins for 2 months. The wine then spent 9 months on the gross lees before bottling.
Complex aromas emerge on this skin contact wine like anise, ripe apples, jasmine and smoke. Golden apples, figs and minerals dominate on the palate. Unfiltered and unfined, with zero spraying in the vineyard. 1000 bottles made.
