MALATINSZKY KÚRIA
Csaba Malatinszky
Wine Region: Villány
Village: Villány
The historic Malatinszky family estate has produced wine in the south of Hungary for over eight centuries. Csaba Malatinszky started his career as a sommelier in France and later in Budapest, and he re-established the family winery in 1997. He was the first person to re-introduce Cabernet Franc - the area's flagship grape - to the region after the fall of communism. Since then, Malatinszky’s wines have garnered international acclaim for their complexity that expresses Villány’s unique microclimate and terroir.
The winery was certified organic in 2009. Csaba practices minimal intervention winemaking with an emphasis on handwork in the vineyards and cellar, and continues to produce some of the finest examples of Cabernet Franc in the world. To quote Csaba, "without beauty, life is meaningless. As a human being I would like to express that inner content, which is only mine. I feel blessed that I can do it my way."
