Bukolyi Marcell

HÁRS-FURMINT CUVÉE

2019

After 10 years making wine for the family winery, Marcell Bukolyi struck out on his own and formed his own winery in 2016. The winery is 14 hectares, and it is the only fully certified organic winery in Eger. It is located on the foot of the Nagy-Eged hill, with rich chalk soils and a volcanic subsoil.

This is a classic blend of two Hungarian native varietals, Hárslevelű (60%) and Furmint (40%). The blend is now almost exclusively associated with Tokaj, which is a major misconception - these varietals have been blended together in dry cuvées across Hungary for hundreds of years. In Eger, Marcell Bukolyi's version has a waxy, herbal nose with a creamy honeyed flavor on the palate. Melon, quince, with a long finish. 2 days skin contact, spontaneous fermentation in open vats, followed by aging in new Hungarian oak (30%) and tank (70%) for 18 months. Certified organic.
