Szent Donát
MÉSZKŐ
2023
Szent Donát is located in the small village of Csopak, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. The predominant and most historically relevant varietal here, as in most towns in north Balaton, is Olaszrizling (Welschriesling), but Furmint has long been an important local varietal as well.
The Szent Donát Mészkő is a mineral Furmint-Olaszrizling blend from St. Donát's limestone soils in Csopak, on the northern coast of Lake Balaton. Mészkő means "limestone" in Hungarian, and this wine is all about the terroir; the limestone departs a distinctively creamy salinity to the wine. Flavors like baked green apple, candied citrus, white blossoms, almonds, pepper and salt dominate on the nose and palate.
The wine was fermented spontaneously in a temperature controlled steel tank. It was then aged on the fine lees for 10 months in stainless steel without stirring. Furmint 60%, Olaszrizling 40%. Unfiltered and unfined, vegan, certified organic.
