STEIGLER PINCE
Tamás Varga
Wine region: Sopron
Village: Sopron
Steigler Winery was founded in 2016 by Bálint Lőrinczy, whose family has long winemaking roots in the Sopron wine region. Today, Steigler is under the direction of Bálint and his winemaker Tamás Varga, who is also a native of Sopron.
Besides respecting tradition, organic winemaking is at the heart of Tamás's philosophy. In his youth he visited the important international wine regions, and spent time working at wineries in Austria, California and New Zealand. Thus armed with a wide knowledge of organic farming, new wine technologies and the most up-to-date trends, he returned to Sopron and started working at Steigler in 2018. The winery was certified organic in the same year.
Tamás's goal is to make high quality, organic wines that reflect his and Bálint's shared values. He also strives to make wines that display the Soproni vineyards' exceptional benefits, such as the area's unique mica slate soils and the special microclimate coming from the vineyards’ proximity to Lake Fertő (Lake Neusiedl) on the Austrian border.
