Villa Tolnay

C-CUVÉE

2019

Villa Tolnay is located at the foot of the volcanic Csobánc hill, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton in western Hungary. The ancient volcanic soils and primeval sediments of the former Pannonian Sea give the wines an unmistakably volcanic expression.

The C-Cuvee is a Cabernet Franc and Merlot blend from a single vineyard on Csobánc, with basalt soils, clay, and ancient sea sediment sand. The grapes were picked by hand, and the wine was fermented spontaneously in French Boutes barriques (225-500 L) for 12 months. Deep and dark violet, black cherry and tobacco aromas, with complex structure on the palate. Minerals, juicy dark berries and green herbs emerge on the lengthy finish. Unfiltered and unfined, organic farming.

From Wine Enthusiast: “This deep-hued wine offers aromas of black currant, mocha and truffle paste. It is simultaneously bright and spicy on the palate, with clove, spearmint, pomegranate, Mission fig, milk chocolate and dried thyme flavors. Robust tannins are out in full force, but soft acidity keeps them from overpowering the palate. The finish is marked with a soft note of butterscotch.” (93 Points, December 2023)
