Steigler Pince

KÉKFRANKOS

2021

Steigler is a family-owned organic winery in Sopron, the small cool region in northwest Hungary directly on the Austrian border. Sopron shares its winemaking traditions and culture with Burgenland, of which it formerly was home to the region’s capital. Steigler was established in 2015 and covers 14 hectares. Winemaker Tamás Várga has been working organically on the property since 2018.

Their late-ripening estate Kékfrankos has flavors like pepper, paprika, dried plum and cloves on the nose, and forest fruit compote and cacao on the palate. Medium-bodied and balanced. Fermentation was spontaneous in tank and open casks, and the wine was aged for 12 months in mostly second-use 500 L Hungarian oak barrels.

Unfiltered and unfined, certified organic (2017).
