Lenkey Pincészet
FURMINT VÁLOGATÁS
2013
This is Lenkey's Furmint Selection from 2013, which he describes as his favorite vintage since 1999. The best Furmint grapes were selected for this wine from 4 of Lenkey's top parcels in Mád, Tokaj, rich in volcanic tuff, rhyolite and iron oxide. The wine was spontaneously fermented with native yeasts in large new and used Hungarian oak barrels, and subsequently aged for 3 years in Hungarian oak and 4.5 years in bottle.
Minerals and smoky honey appear on the nose, with chestnuts, allspice, and candied stone fruits transitioning to salty, waxy green apples and tart pomelo on the palate. Long lingering finish. Certified organic, 1928 bottles produced.
From Wine Enthusiast: “This golden straw-colored wine has a bouquet of apricot marmalade, brined green olives, beeswax and freesia. It is bright on entry, offering an opening salvo of pineapple and peach backed by rose water, sage leaf, vanilla bean and a hint of clove set into a full-textured wine that ends as bright as it began.” (94 Points, December 2023)
