LENKEY PINCÉSZET
Géza Lenkey
Wine region: Tokaj
Village: Mád
Géza Lenkey Sr. founded Lenkey Pincészet in 1999. Géza Jr. worked alongside Géza Sr. until 2007, when he took over winemaking for the estate. They currently have 7 vineyards on 15 parcels in Mád and Bodrogkeresztúr, equaling 10.4 hectares total. The vineyard sites include Kishegy, Vilmány, Holdvölgy, Urágya-köves, Bomboly, Hegyfarok and Betsek.
The winery has not used pesticides or herbicides since 2005. The entire estate was certified organic in 2015. Géza starts pruning very early, and he performs two harvests every year - one in the spring after budding, and one at the end of the summer. In the cellar, Géza is committed to low-intervention winemaking practices like spontaneous fermentation and low sulfur use.
Géza is known for his bold, expressive wines and experimental aging techniques. While long-aging sweet Tokaji Aszú is common, Géza uses the same technique for his dry Furmint and Hárslevelű wines. He believes that Tokaji wines are terroir-driven and complex, and that they need time to reach their full potential.
