Lenkey Pincészet
PURITAN
2022
Lenkey is always surprising us with his wines - and he certainly succeeded when he unveiled his leesy and unique zero-sulfur white wine called the Puritan, made of native aromatic varieties.
This is made from grapes hailing from every one of Lenkey’s 15 plots in and around the village of Mád, Tokaj. It is a blend of Muscat Otthonel, Zengő, Zenit, Cserszegi Fűszeres, and Zalagyöngye. These early-ripening varieties are not among the official Tokaji varieties - historically they were used to make wines that were offered to farmworkers and other helping friends and neighbors when they were working the “big harvest” of Furmint/Hárslevelű a few months later.
Whole bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation on the lees in stainless steel tank. Fermentation was lengthy in this hot vintage. The wine remained on the lees in the tank without temperature control for 2 years. The resulting wine is earthy and nutty, with flavors like green apple, rosemary and dill, and sweet spice on the nose and palate. Unfiltered, unfined, and no sulfur added. Certified organic.
