BUSSAY PINCE
Dr. Dorottya Bussay
Wine Region: Zala
Village: Csörnyeföld
After the fall of communism in 1989, Dr. László Bussay founded the Bussay winery in the village of Csörnyeföld, near the Hungarian-Slovenian-Croatian border in Zala. He ran the winery and his local medical practice until 2014, when his daughter Dorottya took over both the winery and the practice.
Dori grew up in the winery, and spent her teenage years helping her father in the vineyards in the cellar. Following her father's death, she returned to Csörnyeföld to become the head winemaker. Today she continues her father’s tradition of reclaiming the soil by planting unique native varietals, such as Csókaszőlő.
The winery was certified organic in 2018. It produces some of Hungary’s best wine using low-intervention methods, realizing Dr. Bussay Sr.’s vision of reinstating Zala as one of Hungary’s top wine regions 33 years later.
Winery Size: 5.5 Hectares
Grapes: Csókaszőlő, Furmint, Muscat, Olaszrizling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Tramini, Rajnai Riesling, Laska, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon.
