FILEP PINCE
Miklós Gergely Filep
Wine Region: Tokaj
Village: Tállya
The Filep Winery was founded in 2013 by a father and son duo, Miklós and Miklós Gergely (Gergő). They own 2.2 hectares around the villages of Tállya and Rátka in Tokaj. They cultivate vines that are between 75 and 105 years old, giving an instantly-recognizable concentration and liveliness to their wines.
Miklós Sr. is a former professor of biology, geography and geology who wrote a thesis on the Tokaji terroir around 40 years ago. His son Gergő studied winemaking in Budapest, and after working as the head winemaker at two major Tokaji wineries, he decided to focus - with his father's help - on his own wines.
Today, Filep creates beautiful, low-intervention wines that respect the region's history and its impressive, complex terroir. These wines tell us a lot about Tokaj, and are a valuable asset to understanding Hungary's most celebrated wine region. In 2022, Gergő also surprised us by making a Kékfrankos from his friend’s organic vineyard on the prestigious Nagy-Eged in Eger.
Winery Size: 2.2 Hectares
